Writer and photographer since the mid-1980s, specialising in travel (mostly France) and the outdoors (walking guides, mainly to Wales, the Lake District, the Pennines and the Scottish islands). Based in Lancashire, but frequently somewhere else, and theoretically retired.
In recent years my focus has been on updating and revising the several books I have with Cicerone Press, and writing for Cumbria and Lake District Walker magazine.

I have recently completed a guide to 'Exploring Lake District Dales' as a sequel to my Scottish islands book. It will be published by June 2025. Pre-order here.
I've also updated my Cicerone guide to 'Walking on the Isle of Mull' by adding in walks on the nearby island of Coll and Tiree, so that the title becomes 'Walking on the Isle of Mull, Coll and Tiree'.
Also now available is a new small guide to '15 Short Walks on the Isle of Mull', with a corresponding guide to '15 Short Walks on the Isle of Skye' available soon.
Work is also on-going on a new edition of my guide to 'Walking the Coast-to-Coast Path' to coincide with the launch of this outstanding trek as a national trail in 2025.
